Volleyball Schedule Released: No Time to Relax in the new 9-team 26-5A.

Friday, June 30, 2006
Before you can Say Dig-Set-Spike the Madison Maverick Volleyball squad will be starting district play for 2006. The Volleyball Schedule looks to be a grueling test for the Mavs as just about every match will mean a lot for the playoff chase. The season starts on Aug 15 as the Maverick Volleyball team travels out to the hill country to play 4A powerhouse Boerne at 7:00pm. In past years the squad has had a chance to play a few matches and a tourney or two before starting up District play, but not anymore.

Just three days after starting the season, in Boerne, the Lady Mavs will travel to the brand new Wagner Gym to take on the Thunderbirds and start district play. The new 9-team district 26-5A causes teams to have a strange non-district schedule and an extra week of home-and-home match ups in district play. All of this pushes the start of district up two weeks from previous years giving the Mavs only 1 match before the always important district play begins.

Madison plays their first Home game of the season on Aug 22 at 7:15pm at Littleton Gym against Lee High School. The Mavs will look at getting some matches under their belts as they will be in Tournament play on Fri the 25th and Sat the 26th, and again the following weekend Sept 1st and 2nd. Sandwiched between the Tournaments is a District match-up against Smithson Valley on Aug 29th.

Other notable games on the schedule start with the Sept 8th match up with district foe Judson in a match that will be played on the James Madison Campus in the large gym at 7:30pm. Madison catches a break in the District schedule, but will have no time to relax on Sept 22nd when they host the always formidable Incarnate Word HS at Littleton. Madison travels up Bulverde road to Smithson Valley on Oct 3rd and Madison will end their regular season with a non-district game against Marshall High School at Paul Taylor Gym on Oct 24th.

Go Mavs!
