Volleyball Looking to Bounce Back

Sunday, September 17, 2006
Madison Volleyball will be trying to put this past week behind them and will be looking to bounce back against Roosevelt as they close out the first half of the district season. Last week the task was daunting as the Mavs had district foe and Playoff mainstay Churchill on the schedule on Tuesday and MacArthur on Friday.

Over at Churchill gone are names like Dabbs, Banse and Harris and some people felt this would be a rebuilding year for the Chargers; On Tuesday Churchill showed they are already back. Churchill wasted no time with the Mavs on Tuesday and dropped our lady Mavericks into the tangle for the 4th and final playoff spot.

With Reagan, Smithson Valley and Churchill separating them-selves from the rest of the 26-5A field, the Madison vs. MacArthur match on Friday held all types of playoff implications for fourth and final playoff spot. The Mavs would jump out to a 2-0 lead in the match behind Sr. Amber Wetz but would not be able to hold on and would lose the best of 5 match 3-2 in a heart breaker.

With Losses to Smithson Valley, Reagan, Churchill and MacArthur in the first half of the district schedule Madison has no room for error going into the second half. Madison will need to stay perfect against the teams they beat on the front side and will have to find a way to pick up at least one victory over one of the top 4 teams. As for now the MacArthur match on Oct 17th looks to be large for the Mavs and their playoff hopes. Another big match will be the Judson match at Judson on the 10th of October as well.

Before we jump onto the second half of the district track Madison must not overlook Roosevelt on Tuesday night at Littleton. Roosevelt comes limping into the Match with a 4-12 and 0-6 record; Coach Little will have the Mavs focused to bounce back. On Friday the Mavs get a quick break from district 26-5A as they play the 12-10 IWHS Shamrocks at Littleton before starting the second half.

Go Mavs!
