Madison Volleyball Kicks off the 2006 Season!
Saturday, August 12, 2006
8/11/06 - James Madison Volleyball will officially kick off their season on Tuesday August 14, 2006 when they travel to Boerne to face the always forma table Greyhounds. But before the regular season starts the squad got a chance to Dig, Set and Spike against some local teams in some warm up scrimmages. On Friday, the first official UIL day for scrimmages, the MAVS travel to the Hill Country and played several scrimmages at Smithson Valley High School. All three Madison squads (Varsity, JV and Freshmen) got some needed game like experience. Madison scrimmaged against three squads on Friday that all made the post season in 2005 as they took on Clark, Smithson Valley and Austin Westlake. Coach Little got a good measuring stick against some of the areas traditional powerhouse programs on Friday. Scrimmages are timed matches usually lasting 45 min to an hour, score is not kept and the coaches can do a lot of directing on the court during the match.
The Mavs did not have much time to rest as they scrimmaged again on Saturday at Reagan High School. Again Coach Little pitted the Mavs against some of the areas top programs as the Mavs were up against Highlands, Boerne and O’Connor. The Mavs seem to be taking the attitude of if you want to be the best you have to play and beat the best.
