Madison Girls Soccer continued their winning ways last week. After getting Iced out on Tuesday night the Lady Mavs braved another match in a mist and rain, this time opening district play vs Wagner. The Girls Varsity team would pitch it's 3rd shutout of the young season. Amazingly the Mavs have only given up one goal this year in 4 contest, and look to continue their strong defensive play this week vs Lee on Tuesday and at Smithson valley on Friday night. The first week of the season the scoring for the Mavs was dominated by Kaysie Boomhower; against Wagner the Mavs shared the load with 5 players scoring one goal. Macenzie Nabors, Kaysie Boomhower, Noel Russell, Mayela Everts, Krissy Wilson all found the back of the net vs Wagner Friday night. - JLA

Girls Basketball - January 21, 2007

If beating Roosevelt two weeks ago wasn't enough to convince the public that the Madison Girls Varsity basketball team is one of the better teams in San Antonio, then the dismantling of Wagner should be the enough. The Lady Mavs have put together and impressive run to force their way into the district 26-5A race. Thursday night on campus the lady Mavs showed a lot of grit as they came from behind to drop the first place T-birds. After going into the break down 25-29, the Mavs took control in the 3rd quarter and never gave in to the Unrelenting pressure by the thunder birds, and finished with the score 61-56. The Madison Girls varsity team would have to turn around and play again on Friday night and would cost past Lee 50-35. Charlicia Harper would lead the Mavs in scoring for the week with a two-game total of 31 points. The quest for the post season continues this week as Madison will play Smithson Valley on Tuesday and then match up with an extremely hungry Reagan squad on Friday night at Littleton Gym. - JLA

Boys Basketball - January 21, 2007

This last week the Mavs boys varsity basketball team took their game to the next level, and all but locked up the district title for the 2006-2007 season. After having to postpone their Tuesday night game do the weather, the Mavs rescheduled their Wagner contest for Thursday night on campus. The Mavs showed they can finish teams off and not let up as they survived a barrage of 3-pointers and defeated the thunder birds 82-68. Lead by Senior Carlton Scott, and his 32 points, the Mavs held on to first place in district 26-5A play. Madison would finish off the week on Saturday by taking down Lee. While moving to 10-0 in district is significant the fact that the rest of the district is no where in site is even more comforting. Churchill who started last week in second place lost two games, leaving Reagan in sole possession of number two seed. Setting up a showdown this Friday night at Littleton Gym. The Madison faithful have been great in support of all the Madison basketball teams this season, but this Friday will be the night you won't want to miss. Reagan basketball is traditionally one of the best in the area so this weeks contest should be a great game. - JLAUpcoming Varsity Boys Basketball GamesTuesday - January 23, 2007 - 7:30pm Madison vs Smithson Valley @ S.V.Friday - January 26, 2007 - 7:30pm Madison vs Reagan @ Littleton

Girls Soccer - January 14, 2007

Madison Girls Soccer made a big splash to open the 2007 season. After being ranked in the top 10 in the area by the express-News the girls went out and made a claim to move up in the rankings after placing second in the North Loop Tourney. Friday Madison opened against East Central and proceeded to drop the Lady Hornets 7-0. Madison was lead by Kaysie Boomhower with an amazing 5 goal performance. Saturday the Mavs opened the day against O'Connor Ranked 8th in the Express-News pre-season top 10. The Mavs held their own in pitching their second shut out of the Tourney with a 1-0 victory and propelling the lady Mavs to the Championship match. Madison would have to settle for second place as they could not get past the Private School powerhouse and lost 1-0. If the Second place finish wasn't impressive enough the fact that the Mavs allowed only 1 goal in 3 contest over the weekend should turn some heads. The Lady Mavs are not only making some noise but they are causing a huge log jam in the District 26-5A race. With an incredibly young team this year the Mavs are proving their worth against the top teams in the district. Last week with only one game on the docket the Girls Varsity Team was faced with a huge undertaking. Tuesday night at Littleton Gym the lady Mavs came of age as they defeated the highly touted Roosevelt Rough Riders. Roosevelt has been in a dog fight all year with Wagner and Churchill for the top spot in District 26-5A play. Tuesday the Mavs forced their way into the picture. Lead by Teanna San Nicholas and her 17 points the Mavs came from behind to win 58-52. Down 22-13 at half the Mavs came out in the second frame fired up and shooting lights out all over the floor. Scoring an amazing 45 points in the second half the Mavs are now one of the teams to beat in District 26-5A as we inch closer to the Playoffs. The Mavs used the off weekend to get ready for another hefty task as they play Wagner at Madison Gym on Tuesday. Everyone is encouraged to come out a support the Lady Mavs in their quest to reach the post season.
